Stolen Laptops Contained Hospital Patient Information

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) - Four laptop computers with personal information on nearly ten-thousand Gulf Coast Medical Center patients were stolen recently in two separate incidents.

A company spokesman in Panama City says three laptop computers were stolen from a car in Texas in November. Those laptops contained the names and personal information of 19-hundred patients.

Another laptop was taken from a car in Tallahassee in February. That computer contained the names and personal information of more than eight-thousand patients.

The spokesman says the company has already issued letters to patients whose information was taken in the November theft. Letters to patients affected by the February theft should be mailed within three weeks.
