The Houston County Health Department has confirmed the first case of rabies in 2007.
A raccoon found Wednesday off County Road 203 near the Alabama-Florida state line tested positive for rabies.
Health department officials are asking you have your pets vaccinated and to not let your children pet or play with wild animals.
If you are bitten by an animal, you should wash the wound immediately and seek medical attention.
Last year, there were 22-rabid animals found in Houston County.
