The FBI is investigating a government agency in Dothan where money may have been misappropriated.
Sources say the Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission's account has been dipped into, and thousands of dollars have gone unaccounted for.
The commission was formed in the late 1960's to help communities with economic development, education, and senior citizen support.
The FBI is involved because some of the missing money may involve federal funds, which may have been taken across state lines.
Representatives from the state FBI headquarters in Mobile tell News 4 they are in the preliminary stages of the investigation and haven't yet opened up a case.
We attempted to reach Director Tom Solomon, who did not return our phone calls.
