Deputies and corrections officers have begun taking a six-hour basic health and safety course. The training includes instruction in first aid and CPR.
Personnel will also be taught how to prevent choking along with other life-saving techniques.
Sheriff Lamar Glover says jail personnel sometimes have to deal with medical problems and injured inmates. And he says "deputies" never know what sort of emergencies they'll face.
The training will continue for the next several days until all of the more than 100 deputies and jail personnel have completed the course.
