The Coffee County School Board has approved their five year capital plan; a wish list of possible school improvements.
The first two projects on the plan are already in the works.
The press box at Zion Chapel's football field is waiting for finishing touches and new bleachers will soon go in at the New Brockton High School gym.
"We received a few years ago $100,000 from Tracy Lawrence thanks to Ronnie Gilley and his input," say Superintendent Linda Ingram, "It was set aside to help pay for new bleachers."
The school board hopes to receive a $5,000,000 zero interest bond from the stimulus package to fund the next three projects on their list.
The student population at Zion Chapel School is growing so the school board hopes to add eight classrooms.
Those plans also include a new band room.
"Everything is small, the hinges are falling apart, there's holes all through the walls," says 8th grade band student Tiffany Crowell as she showed News 4 around.
Next on the list is to renovate restrooms and locker rooms system-wide.
They also hope to build an addition to New Brockton High School's lunchroom to add needed seating and kitchen space.
"It has open beams and those are deteriorating and we recognize that we need to close in the ceiling as well,” says Ingram.
There are eleven more projects on the wish list waiting for funding.
Some of those other projects include new gym bleachers at Kinston and Zion Chapel, replacing the bus shop that Ingram says is in such poor shape that it's no longer insurable, and replacing the flat roof, windows and air conditioning units in one of the buildings at Kinston.
The full capital plan list is below.
They are listed in order of most necessary first.
Superintendent Ingram says that if an emergency happens, making repairs on damage would be added to the top of the capital plan.
