Alabama's prison chief says he plans to move more than 1400 state inmates out of a Mississippi prison.
The Alabama inmates have been housed at the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler because Alabama state prisons didn't have room for them.
Corrections Corporation of America, a Nashville-based company, manages the Mississippi prison.
State Correction Commissioner Donal Campbell told Alabama lawmakers he intended to return the prisoners to the state because there was now adequate cell space for them.
The Alabama contract generated about $300,000 in operating income for CCA during the most recent quarter. The contract calls for the state to pay the company at a 95 percent occupancy rate until March 11th.
When CCA signed its current contract with Alabama in July, it hired 270 employees at the prison.
