Because of problems with rip currents and inexperienced swimmers, Ft. Walton is expanding its beach lifeguard program this year and it's looking for some summer help.
Anyone interested in serving as a lifeguard this season needs to show up to take part in the 500 meter swim tryouts.
One will be held Friday, February 9th and a second on Monday February 12th at 8:30 am.
Applicants will meet at South Walton Fire Department station number 3.
Tryouts will be held at a local pool.
Those who pass the tryouts will begin the lifeguard academy on March first.
Ft. Walton started the lifeguard program last year after several drowning incidents officials say last year's six life guard positions will probability be expanded this year.
