A growing number of scams are especially targeting the elderly but people of all ages often fall victim.
Postal inspectors held a seminar at the Houston-Love Memorial Library in Dothan.
They often investigate mail fraud cases and shared their findings with those in attendance.
Inspectors say the most often used methods of hooking people into their scams are through e-mails, sweepstakes claims and money order scams.
US Postal Inspector David Dirmeyer said, “Some of the scams you see over and over again, but they put a new twist on it--enough to make it like something new and people are susceptible to it. People want to get rich quick and that's generally what they prey on."
Inspectors say the best way to avoid being scammed is to not fall for get rich quick plans and as the old saying goes "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
