polar bear dip
Dozens of people plan to maintain an 18-year tradition by jumping into the frigid Tennessee River on New Year's Day.
Members of the Decatur Polar Bear Club say they'll take their annual dip around noon.
Despite warmer-than-normal weather in Decatur river water will be chilly, somewhere in the upper 40s or low 50s.
Sixty-six-year-old Wayne Holliday, the club's founder, said anyone willing to take the plunge will be quote, "in for a shock."
But Holliday believes the annual swim will attract additional participants to Riverwalk Marina. Seventy people took the icy plunge last year.
