AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - The Auburn University Board of Trustees will consider hiking housing rates for students at the main and Montgomery campuses.

Officials on both campuses said the additional money will cover costs for operating and maintaining its halls as well as building a reserve for deferred maintenance.

Various committees of the AU Board of Trustees will meet in the Taylor Center on the AUM campus Thursday at 10 a.m.

All matters will then be presented before the full board when it meets Friday at 9 am. Increases would be between four and four-point-five percent at AU, or 65 to 85 dollars.

The proposal for AUM calls for rates to increase about four to five percent, or 75 to 130 dollars. University officials say the recommended rates are in line with other state institutions for similar accommodations.
