Kinston Bank Robbery

A Coffee County man is waiting to be sentenced after being convicted on federal bank robbery charges.

The bank in Kinston was robbed in December of last year by a man wearing camouflage clothing and armed with a shotgun.

Twenty-three-year-old Richard Jay McCall’s red pick-up truck was found abandoned soon afterward.

The Kinston man was arrested in North Carolina a few days later. Part of the money from the bank was recovered.

Federal prosecutors say McCall spent the rest to buy a new truck that was wrecked when he tried to get away.

McCall was found guilty in federal court in Montgomery last week. He’s scheduled to be sentenced in March. McCall faces more than 30 years behind bars and a fine of up a quarter of a million dollars.
