MADISON, Ala. (AP) - Police in Alabama say a 16-year-old girl missing for almost two weeks has been found in Miami Beach.
Liana Spellman was found with 23-year-old Darby Ridenour, who is wanted for statutory rape in Shelbyville, Tennessee. He also faces charges of interference with custody in Alabama.
Family members say the two met through a friend. They communicated over the phone and Internet despite objections by Spellman's family.
The pair had traveled from Tennessee to Atlanta, where they stayed a few days, before going to Florida. Authorities were able to find Spellman after tracing a credit card purchase of two bus tickets from Fort Myers to Miami.
Ridenour is being held in Miami Beach awaiting extradition to Tennessee. Spellman is being held in protective custody until she can be returned home.
