A Florida man accused of killing his elderly landlord was found guilty of murder Thursday in Chipley.
Forty-six-year-old Everett Newcomb was arrested in May of last year.
That was two days after 80-year-old Areline Payne was found dead in her home.
Family members say she had been beaten and stabbed to death.
Investigators say Newcomb reported the crime, but claimed the woman was dead when he found her.
Newcomb's clothing, which was stained with the victim's blood, was introduced as evidence.
Jurors deliberated just 30 minutes, including taking time to eat lunch, before convicting Newcomb.
Circuit Judge Allen register immediately handed down a maximum sentence of life in prison.
