Two people are behind bars and several items of stolen property have been recovered. It's part of an ongoing scam that Dothan Police have unraveled just within the past few days.

The scam has been going on for years.

Several people are stealing property then it's sold in Dothan pawn shops.

Police caught onto the scam, starting with a hot tip on Tuesday.

The items stacked in this room range from video cameras to DVD players and even commercial outdoor tools.

They've all been recovered within the past two days after a saw was stolen from the wrong business.

"The owner contacted the pawn shops and one of the pawn shops told him he did have a saw matching that description."

That's when the pawn shop owner contacted police and the entire scam began to unravel.

"I pulled it up and saw it was the saw from his business and we got the pawn ticket and rounded up the guy who pawned the saw."

After investigating, they found that the man who pawned the saw, Kevin Hunter, was in cahoots with Curtis Lee Johnson, who was the one stealing the items.

Both have been arrested and charged, but police say it doesn't stop there.

There are at least 12 other cases of stolen property that have been reported half of which happened in the past two months.

And now authorities are trying to match the stolen items with the rightful owners.

"There are several things here that look familiar off reports and I think we're going to be able to close a lot of cases out."

But in the meantime, investigators are also finding more and more suspects who were involved in the scheme.

And the operation gets bigger with each arrest.

Investigators have another suspect who they believe was also involved in this operation.

They expect to recover a generator, a compressor and other items that were more recently stolen.

They also expect to find even more information and additional suspects.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the Dothan Police Department at 615-3000 or Crimestoppers at 793-7000.
