ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities have determined that asphyxia killed a young African man who hid in the wheel well of a Delta plane flying from Dakar, Senegal, to Atlanta.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Richard Rocha says
that the agency is still trying to establish the stowaway's identity.
His body was found in the wheel well of the Delta flight when it landed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport last Friday.
The man had a small backpack with a few clothes but was not carrying any identification.
The flight had left Dakar, Senegal, more than nine hours before the body of the stowaway was found around 8:45 am.
The autopsy found his chest had been compressed, probably by the landing gear, causing the man to suffocate.
