PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) - A three-year-old is recovering from severe burns after police in Phenix City said the child was deliberately scalded in hot water.
Investigators said it happened Tuesday at a local motel.
Phenix City Police Captain Jim Hart said the child was left in the care of Darrain Tolliver. He was questioned and later charged with attempted murder. He said Tolliver is the boyfriend of the child's mother.
Hart said the youngster suffered second-degree burns below the waist and evidence indicated the child was burned in hot bath water.
The child, whose name and gender were not disclosed, was treated at Saint Francis Hospital and later transferred to Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital for additional treatments. The three-year-old was listed in stable condition.
Tolliver, meanwhile, was ordered held in the Russell County Jail without bond.
