Heavy Rain Damaged Geneva Temporary Jail

Friday heavy rainfall resulted in additional issues at a problem-plagued Wiregrass temporary jail.

Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward points out water leaks in the ceiling of the temporary jail.

The fiberglass structure is located in the Geneva County Courthouse parking lot.

Since being completed several months ago, Sheriff Ward is still awaiting state approval to move in prisoners. The leaks may prolong that process.

“It leaks from day one. It is still leaking and that's where all our electrical supplies are there, and there's wood in it, so it will probably to rot," said Sheriff Greg Ward.

$300,000 has already been spent on the temporary jail. The main jail is currently housing nearly twice the maximum inmate limit.
