Andalusia Police Chief Wilbur Williams says his department has seen a 30 percent decrease in business burglaries.
The chief credits increased patrols with sharply cutting the break-ins.
On a typical night there are four officers patrolling assigned zones. 122 store burglaries have been reported in Andalusia during the 2006 calendar year.
Police believe many of the crimes were committed by the same criminals.
<"are patrols the command district and trying to gain leads on the suspects. We are definitely making a difference with prevention patrols," said Chief Williams.
Besides the normal compliment of patrol officers the city pays overtime for an additional policeman to provide security in the Downtown Square.
