DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge has dismissed a woman's lawsuit that claimed whe was not hired as city clerk in Dothan because she is black and because of her age.
Eva Matthews was 49 at the time she applied for the city clerk's position.
She claimed she was more qualified than the city clerk the city hired, Pam McCoy. McCoy is a 43-year-old white female.
Matthews works as a supervisory attorney/advisor in the office of the Staff Judge Advocate at Fort Rucker.
City officials have said McCoy was hired because of her background in accounting and municipal administration.
Watkins said in his ruling that Matthews did not prove that there was a big enough difference in her qualifications and McCoy's to bring the case to trial.
