The City of Dothan officially began using its brand new, state-of-the art, automated garbage pick-up trucks earlier this month.
During Tuesday’s city commission meeting, members were told this new service will be a long process and there are some delays in getting every homeowner on board.
The city is currently conducting just one route a day to allow themselves time to train drivers on how to use the new trucks.
Some neighborhoods in Dothan are already being serviced by the new automated trucks.
The new trucks cut back on the amount of manpower needed and with less people, the city saves money.
On January 8th the second group of residents will be set up with the automated system.
City officials say they plan to offer this new service to the entire city by the summer of 2007.
