Recently released data from the Alabama Department of Education shows, on average, approximately $6,500 is spent per child in public education.
In the Enterprise City School District, officials say that number tends to be higher. Statewide, instructional support and teachers comprise roughly 60 percent of a district's budget.
However, Enterprise officials place that number closer to 70 percent.
This year, the district bought new school buses and is also building a $15 million early childhood education center for kindergarten students.
The new center should open by the start of the 2008 school year.
