Ala. National Guard Celebrates 370th Birthday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Army and Air National Guard
will celebrate the service's 370th birthday Wednesday.

A ceremony honoring the occasion will be held this afternoon at Guard's headquarters in Montgomery. The Guard is the nation's first military service and was established on December 23rd, 1636 in the Massachusetts Bay Colony with three regiments of militia's known as
Minutemen.

Today, there are more than 450-thousand dollars soldiers and airmen serving in the National Guard, including 50-thousand in Alabama.

More than 15-hundred Alabamians are currently deployed to Iraq -- another nine-thousand are serving in domestic missions across
the U-S.

Stations: National Guard ceremony begins at 3:30 p-m at the state Military Department, 1740 Congressman Dickinson Drive, Montgomery.
