Future Opp Bio-Fuel Plant Announcement

America's efforts to find alternative energy sources appear to have taken a giant step forward. In Opp, plans were announced to build a $40 million dollar bio-fuel plant.

Santa Rosa Beach, Florida resident, John Beebe, is president of Perihelionperra-Heliuum Global Incorporated. Plans are to build a $40 million bio-fuel plant on a 20-acre site at the Opp Industrial Park.

During a news conference, Beebe says it'll utilize peanuts, soybeans, and other crops to produce a much cleaner fuel than diesel.

Besides 150 new jobs, the facility will require thousands of tons of crops to turn into bio-fuel.

Deputy Alabama agriculture commissioner, and former Florala Mayor, Glen Zorn, says it's great news to Wiregrass farmers.

Once complete, the bio-fuel plant is expected to become a model for similar facilities to be built in the U.S and overseas.

Groundbreaking for the bio-fuel plant is expected to take place next month.

Company officials hope it'll start producing fuel by January of 2008.
