GREENVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A 26-year-old Greenville police officer who was named Officer Of The Year resigned today after an argument with his girlfriend allegedly turned violent.
Less than two months ago, John Bass and his partner Byron Russell were dubbed "Police Officers of the Year" for their involvement in a shoot-out with an armed guest at the Comfort Inn.
Chief Lonzo Ingram said Bass' girlfriend said she and Bass had an argument and he grabbed her throat, choked her and hit her in the face.
Bass spent last night in the Butler County jail and was released on 13-thousand dollar bond this morning.
Bass served as grand marshall in Greenville's Christmas parade last weekend.
