BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A spokeswoman for UAB Hospital says
Lieutenant Governor Lucy Baxley suffered a mild stroke Thursday. Baxley, who became ill Wednesday night, is expected to make a full recovery.

The statement was issued today on behalf of Baxley's family.

Her husband, Jim Smith, said the 68-year-old Baxley had complained she was not feeling well while visiting family and friends in Birmingham for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Baxley, a Democrat, lost to Republican incumbent Bob Riley in the November seventh general election. The loss came following a long and strenuous campaign. She had been campaigning for the post for more than a year.

Baxley's four-year term as lieutenant governor ends in January.

The family asks Alabamians to pray for her recovery.
