BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Lieutenant Governor Lucy Baxley is in a Birmingham hospital undergoing tests after becoming ill while in Birmingham to spend the Thanksgiving hospital with family and friends.
Her husband, Jim Smith, said today that the 68-year-old Baxley complained she was not feeling well Wednesday night and was taken
to the hospital for observation and tests. He said it may be several days before the test results are available.
He said he was spending Thanksgiving Day with the lieutenant governor at the hospital.
Baxley is a Democrat. She lost to Republican incumbent Bob Riley
in the November seven governor's election. The loss came following
a long and strenuous campaign. She had been campaigning for the
post for more than a year and defeated former Governor Don
Siegelman in the Democratic Party primary.
Baxley's four-year term as lieutenant governor ends in January. She previously served eight years as state treasurer.
