A state crime lab says a Houston County jail inmate who died over the weekend apparently died of natural causes.
Sheriff Lamar Glover says State Troopers arrested 50-year-old Gary John Duffield Friday night for driving under the influence.
Duffield refused his lunch Saturday and was unresponsive when officers in the jail checked on him around 1PM that afternoon.
Paramedics transported him to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff's Department Commander Don McMullan says a preliminary autopsy report revealed Duffield suffered from a heart condition, a bleeding ulcer and had pneumonia in both lungs.
