For more than 25 years, the city of Dothan’s Christmas season began with a tree lighting in poplar Head Park but this year that tradition will change.
Dothan leisure service employees put up an artificial tree in front of Dothan’s Civic Center, which is 15 by 30 feet and came with colored lights and red balls.
The old tree had grown too large and was turning brown.
The new tree should last for about 10 years and can withstand winds up to 70 miles per hour.
The city is planning to hold a children's lantern processional followed by the tree lighting ceremony Thursday, November 30th at 6 pm.
On the following day, several local dance companies will perform in the Dothan Opera House.
On Saturday a Christmas market will be held on Foster Street from 11 in the morning until 6 that evening.
