Riley's Reaction

Governor Bob Riley

Gov. Riley expressed disappointment over the rejection of his $1.2 billion tax package.

The governor and first lady cast their ballots in his hometown of Ashland.

Riley has said without a tax hike, budget cuts would be so deep that state government would become dysfunctional.

After getting word that his tax plan was overwhelmingly defeated, Riley said the vote shows that Alabamians want more accountability, honesty and trust in Montgomery.

Riley says lawmakers will go to work on those budget cuts in a special session starting Monday.
