Sea Life on the Move

sea life

Crabs, shrimp, sea urchins, starfish and many other marine sea life are moving out into the Gulf of Mexico looking for more salt in their water.

Officials say the gulf is normally around 3.6 percent salt and bays are anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 percent salt. But, with all the recent rains, those percentages have dropped to 1.2 to 1.4 percent.

More than 50 inches of rain had fallen at Eglin Air Force Base by the end of July. That compares to 66 inches for all of last year, and less than 51 inches in each of the previous three years.
