Despite heavy rainfall this year, the Elba Levee restoration is nearly on schedule.
One year ago, work got underway on the $12 million federally funded project.
The purpose is to strengthen the 3.5-mile earthen dam, which surrounds the city.
During the 1990's, Elba experienced three floods, which resulted in loss of life and millions of dollars in property damage.
Mayor James Grimes says the entire project should be completed by December.
Later this fall, work is expected to get underway on Geneva's multi-million dollar levee project.
