For eight straight years a local preparatory school has received state funding because of its excellent program.
Brenda’s preparatory school received a $65,000 grant from the State Office Of School Readiness Program.
The state gives the money to study the effectiveness of quality pre-k schools.
And though excellent pre-k programs in the state of Alabama exist, education officials say there aren't enough of them.
"We're hoping that test scores will show that early intervention and education is good for children" says Brenda Guilford, founder of Brenda's preparatory Academy.
The readiness grant will be used to pay the salary of Brenda’s prep teachers and day to day operating expenses.
