Police are literally pedaling law enforcement on the streets of Dothan.
Although the Dothan Police Department has had a couple of bicycle patrol officers on staff for several year, that division is now being expanded. Eight more officers are currently being trained in how to use the bikes. They will patrol parks, major shopping centers, public housing areas and the downtown business district.
All of the officers in the program have their own patrol cars, but they will be spending part of each shift on their bikes. Bicycles have also been issued to School Resource Officers in Dothan to help them get around high school campuses more efficiently.
