One local organization is doing its part to encourage early detection for breast cancer.
The Dale County Medical Center Relay for Life team released balloons on Friday in Ozark to recognize October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The team sold the balloons and baked goods to raise money for Relay for Life and honor the women who have been affected in the fight against breast cancer.
They are hoping to raise over 500 dollars during the event and encourage women to get checked for the disease.
“The most important thing is that people participate in an early detection program. Last year, we found 11 breast cancers in our community. That's not as bad as the ones that we didn't find. Those are the people that we really want to reach out to,” says Radiology Manager, Pam Blackburn.
This is the first year the Dale County Medical Center Relay for Life team sold and released balloons for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
