The Foundation for Education and Teaching also known as FEAT held a kickoff event tonight for the Adopt-A-Teacher Program.
Teachers and organizers met at the Wiregrass Rehabilitation Center in Dothan to discuss teachers' needs.
The organization's goal is to give every teacher in the six most southeast counties $100 to help purchase school supplies since budget cuts have hit them hard.
Mike Schmitz is the chairman of FEAT, and encourages the public to adopt a teacher.
"When I was a young boy, I struggled in school; in fact I got kicked out of school in the 5th grade. A public school teacher named Mrs. Howell changed my life. She taught me how to read, gave me the tools to succeed, and she said I could do anything and be anything and she was right" says Schmitz.
