An eight year old girl has become the first person in Alabama to die from the mosquito-borne Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus since 1996.
Atlanta's Centers for Disease Control confirmed the child's death on July 26th was the result of the virus.
Health officials say it will take up to ten days before the CDC determines whether an elderly man who died July 25th also was infected with the disease.
The child and the man both died at Brewton Hospital and died within a day of each other.
