Elba Tobacco Tax

The Elba City Council has unanimously voted to increase tobacco taxes.

The local levy goes from four-cents to ten-cents on a pack of cigarettes.

In addition, there will be taxes on cigars, snuff and other tobacco products. The new price structure is effective October 1st.

Recently, the Geneva City Council also increased taxes on all tobacco products.

If Alabama Governor Bob Riley's tax plan is approved in September, local communities will be barred from enacting or increasing tobacco taxes.
