A Bonifay city employee and a jail inmate are facing sex charges involving a minor. Thirty-eight-year-old Ashley Register works at the Bonifay sewage treatment plant.
Court documents indicate he was recently supervising two Holmes County inmates on a work detail.
That's when he reportedly allowed a 19-year-old inmate, John Simmons, to call a 14-year-old girl.
After picking up the teenager in a city van, Simmons allegedly had sex with the girl at the wastewater treatment plant.
Simmons faces a charge of lascivious battery.
He was initially serving time for driving with a suspended license. His bond on the new charge is also $35,000.
Register faces charges of lascivious molestation and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He's been released from the Holmes County work camp on a $35,000 bond.
At this time, Bonifay officials say he's been suspended for 30 days without pay.
