One opponent of Gov. Riley's tax plan is staging a hunger strike against the proposal.
With just sips of water to keep him going, 37-year-old Gene Chapman says he is entering the third day of a month long fast.
Chapman, a devotee of the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, has taken his protest of what he considers to be the illegal taxation of personal income to several states, but he says what's happening in Alabama could be of national significance.
Chapman's fast ends when the polls close Sept. 9t, the same day Alabama residents vote yes or no to the governor's historically high tax plan.
