Pryor Blocked

Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions is deploring the action of Senate Democrats, who successfully blocked Alabama Attorney General Bill Pryor's nomination to a federal appears court seat Thursday.

Pryor fell seven votes shy of the 60 votes needed from the 100-member Senate to cut off a Democratic filibuster that blocked any confirmation vote on the Senate floor.

The Republican Sessions said Democrats are asking potential nominees to reject their values and beliefs in order to be confirmed. Pryor withheld any comment in Montgomery.

His nomination could be brought back up when Congress returns from its recess in a month and at any time until a new Congress is seated.

But Democrats have said they will remain firm against Bush nominees they view as extreme.
