City Salaries

A report released earlier this week shows Dothan's police and firefighters earning less compared to their colleagues.

The study, authorized by the city, shows that Dothan's public safety officers earn between $5,000 to $6,000 less each year than the national average.

Currently, the city pays firefighters and police about $25,000 for an entry level position.

Other cities start their public safety employees around $30,000 per year.

Both Dothan's fire and police chiefs say the lower pay has an impact on recruiting and retention in each department.

Other city employee's compensation either met or exceeded the national market average.
