Comatose Florida Woman

Florida lawmakers and the courts are still at odds in the case of Terri Schiavo (SHY'-voh), a comatose woman whose feeding tube was removed last week.

A federal judge in Tampa has turned down a state agency's request to keep the woman alive.

The agency had wanted to investigate whether the removal of the tube was an abusive act. But the judge says the group failed to provide enough evidence to support its request. He also says state courts have already decided on the case, refusing to block the removal of the tube.

Meantime, a state Senate panel has approved a measure that would give Governor Jeb Bush the power to have the tube put back in. The full Senate plans to consider the legislation tonight. The House passed a similar bill yesterday (Monday).
