Alabama State Troopers are pulling for the governor's proposed tax plan. Members from the Alabama State Troopers Association met with state officials Thursday expressing their support for Gov. Riley's tax package.
The association says the tax plan will provide the money necessary to help patrol Alabama's highways. Currently, Alabama has 319 troopers patrolling roads. That's half the manpower the organization says it needs.
If the tax plan fails, State Trooper Tracy Nelson says tough decisions will have to be made including the possibility of no patrols.
If passed by voters, money from the tax package would also be used to improve the troopers communication and training facilities.
