Geneva Business

Economy

Good economic news could be on the horizon for one Wiregrass city, which has been rocked by job layoffs.

This month, Fleming Foods closed its Geneva Warehouse Facility; the company has filed for bankruptcy.

But, Geneva Mayor Karen Simmons says she's received word that a large grocery wholesale outlet is interested in purchasing Fleming.

The unnamed company is reportedly based in the upper midwest. If the sale goes through, Mayor Simmons says she'll lobby for the Geneva facility.

At one time, Fleming employed several hundred folks in Southeast Alabama and Northwest Florida.
