Officials for a smoke-free Houston County spoke to city leaders Tuesday about passing a proposed smoking ordinance for restaurants.

The new law would ban smoking at all eating establishments, except for those with a bar. Customers there would be permitted to smoke as long as the two areas were separated by a wall and door.

City leaders expressed concerns over bar owners having to pay additional money for separate ventilation systems.

A decision on the smoking ordinance is expected next week.
