Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver says Alabama Gov. Bob Riley's tax reform plan will no longer cost the county millions of dollars.
Instead, the county will be collecting millions.
Culver estimated the governor's original plan would have cost Houston County about $15 million over two decades.
Most of the losses would have resulted from a reassessment of utility taxes on Farley Nuclear Power Plant.
But, the Riley administration agreed to an amendment that allows Houston County and others to offset the losses by keeping part of the tax revenue collected for the state.
That, combined with a proposed increase in property taxes, would allow Houston County to collect an extra $12 million over the next 20 years, a $26 million turn around.
