A federal judge has set a Jan. 12 trial date for Martha Stewart, who's been indicted in connection with a stock scandal.
Stewart left the federal courthouse in Manhattan today after appearing for a routine pre-trial hearing, briefly waving to onlookers shouting her name before getting into a waiting car.
Some chanted, "we love you Martha."
Stewart spoke only briefly during the hearing, saying she agreed with the January trial date. Her stockbroker has also been indicted in the scandal, which involves Stewart's sale of ImClone Systems stock.
Defense lawyers had asked for some extra time so they could look through some 40 boxes worth of government documents in the case, along with computer files.
