Dothan Police Sergeant Retires After 21 years

The Dothan Police Department is undergoing some major personnel changes. Sergeant Stephen Hamm officially turned in his retirement papers Thursday.

Hamm, a 21 year department veteran, is also the president of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers Union.

That union is under heavy scrutiny over a controversial letter some of its members drafted, alleging unlawful activity on behalf of Police Chief John Powell.

Hamm's departure is dependent on whether he can buy military service time to use to advance his retirement date to this November.
