Fuel Spill

A Bahamas cargo ship docked in the Port of Pensacola accidentally discharged about 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel into the bay on Saturday morning.

Officials say crew members of the ship were off loading agricultural goods when the crew members accidentally dumped the fuel into one or more of the ship's ballast tanks.

The fuel then went into the bay.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, The Coast Guard and port workers spent the weekend trying to contain the spill, which left a greasy film across the surface of the port water.

The cleanup effort is expected to last the next couple of days.
