The possible implementation of a one percent sales tax has some uneasy in Dothan.
Still commissioners and residents were able to voice their opinion in Tuesday's city commission meeting.
Commissioners agree the need for a sales tax is vital but only if citizens can see the money be put to good use.
District 1 Commissioner Larry Matthews says some of the funds should be used to better Districts 1 and 2.
The proposed sales tax would bring an estimated $12 million in annual revenue to Dothan.
“As it has always been, District 1 and District 2 has been neglected for years. I'd like to see on whatever we decide that we move forward and let the people in the community know we'll take care of them,” said Matthews.
The City Commission will vote on the proposed increase next week.
